Castle Dome Teacher/Students Selected to Present at International
Technology Conference
Yuma School District One is excited to announce that Castle Dome Middle School
Language Arts teacher, Cary Fields, has been selected as a conference presenter for the 2013 ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) Conference in San Antonio, Texas in June. The presentation will showcase digital portfolios done by her advanced placement students throughout the school year. Pending YESD1 School Board approval, a selected group of students will be accompanying Mrs. Fields to represent Castle Dome, and Yuma.
Students have created digital portfolios reflecting their journey through 8th grade,
including academic, social and civic growth. Mrs. Fields has led instruction
incorporating AZ Common Core Standards and National Educational Technology
Standards. In her classroom, students are using iPads, IPods, Apple TV, Promethean
technology, and a multitude of online resources to learn, create, communicate, write,
read and collaborate with each other and the world. Their efforts will be rewarded as they
present their projects at ISTE 2013, an International stage.
Yuma School District One is the first district in Yuma County to receive such recognition
for teaching students using 21st Century literacy and communication skills. Castle Dome
Middle School is looking for financial support to ensure attendance at ISTE 2013 and
is soliciting donations for this worthwhile learning showcase. Fundraisers will be held
throughout the spring. To donate, inquire or learn more about CDMS technology in
education initiatives, contact Lori Sheffield, Principal, at 928-502-7300.

Parent-Teacher Partnership
Helping all students reach their full potential can seem like a daunting task. It is for that reason I have set up a few resources. Please feel free to browse and watch your student while they are working on their homework, or projects.
LessonCasts
Throughout the school year, what I like to call, Mrs. Fields' LessonCasts will be created and stored here under the VIDEO tab. This will allow students access to content whenever they want. Available along with these short videos are study guides (in the LessonCast Study Guide folder on EDMODO) that can be downloaded or copied quickly into their own notes.
So, if students are absent, struggling in with a specific concept, or just want to review, Mrs. Fields' LessonCasts are here to help!

Edmodo
Edmodo is a great way to get students to collaborate together, ask questions, turn in assignments and even check their Edmodo assignment calendar. Below you can see an example of assignments color coded with the class they are attached to -- this makes it helpful when students have more than one teacher using Edmodo. Students can click on the assignment right here in the calendar and be taken to a link to turn in the assignment.
